Hadas Tal

I grew up in Israel and after finishing my army service I received my bachelors degree in biology from Tel Aviv University. After graduating I moved to San Francisco, where I worked at UCSF, studying caspase-8 mutation function in head and neck cancer. I joined the Hammarlund lab in 2020 for my doctoral studies through the MCGD track. In the Hammarlund lab I am studying axon degeneration and prevention of degeneration as mediated by mitochondrial function and localization.

I am fascinated by and dedicated to finding ways to expand healthspan rather than lifespan. I am particularly interested in the science associated with the health of the brain. Beyond my research I am involved in an initiative for soldier and veteran wellness, spearheaded by veterans at Yale.

I love painting, listening to audiobooks and playing soccer with my husband, Yoni.

The Hammarlund lab is a welcoming group of brilliant scientists, always open to talking about research, social equity, random fun facts and food.
